Professional Liability Expands into Legal Malpractice
Since 2013, our Professional Liability Division (PLD) has offered customizable professional liability insurance protection to non-medical service providers in a variety of industries. Now, the Division is working to expand its product offering to law firms with the creation of its newly formed legal malpractice group.
Heading the group is David Ruple, Divisional Senior Vice President, who recently joined Great American. With more than 14 years of experience in professional liability underwriting, Dave will be responsible for strategic planning and oversight of underwriting for the newly formed lawyer’s malpractice team on a national level.
According to Reina Gregorio, PLD Divisional President, the business expansion comes at the right time. “Over the past 12 to 18 months, we’ve seen a contraction in the capacity available for large law firms,” she says. “This, coupled with significant rate increases, has created a market opportunity that we hope to capitalize upon and provide much needed additional capacity for our producers in this space.”
Over the next several months, David and a cross-functional Great American team will be building the product for an April 1 launch. The coverage will be designed to protect large law firms against legal malpractice. The product will be available nationwide, on a non-admitted basis, and distributed through select appointed agents and brokers.
