The Special Risk Casualty Underwriting Unit specializes in primary general liability on a wide variety of risks.

We focus on classes of business currently out of favor with standard markets or that have individual loss problems. Our seasoned underwriting staff averages over 20 years experience and are prepared to offer quick decisions to well-defined, problematic risk situations. We favor traditional risk transfer insurance solutions. We take pride in our ability to keep proper perspective when other markets cannot. We look at individual risks and price each one on its own merits. We generally avoid those risks with high claim frequencies, but we welcome those with severe loss potential.

Since 2000 American Empire has been regarded as the premier surplus lines occurrence market for eldercare risks in the U.S., writing policies in 43 states. In recent years we have also written primary general liability for residential and commercial contractors, largely in states east of the Mississippi.

We operate exclusively on a non-admitted basis through contracted excess and surplus lines producers. All business is written in American Empire Surplus Lines Insurance Company.
