Chee Keng Koon
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Chee Keng Koon is the appointed Chief Executive Officer of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic leadership, staff development and operational management of the Singapore operation in meeting its growth objectives for all classes of business.
Mr. Chee has over 25 years of experience in leadership and management roles in the insurance industry. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Chee was the Chief Executive Officer of QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch and an Indonesia joint venture company. In addition, he was the Marine Regional General Manager for the Asia Region. Mr. Chee was also a shareholder under a joint venture arrangement with QBE Insurance (International) Limited when QBE Marine Underwriting Agency Pte. Ltd. was incorporated in 2001.
With his diverse experience and appreciation of the dynamics in the marine business and the business world, Mr. Chee transformed his previous engagements’ Marine insurance portfolio from a relatively small business to a reputable market leader in Singapore and Asia. He also led QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch to be the best non-life insurance company as awarded by World Finance.
Mr. Chee holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree in Insurance Management and is a Certified Insurance Professional by the ANZ Institute of Insurance & Finance. He is also conferred as IBF Distinguished Fellow by The Institute of Banking & Finance.
Chief Financial and Operating Officer
Ms. Vanessa Teo is appointed as the Chief Financial and Operating Officer of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. She is to ensure that Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch is the first choice for customers and investors, by balancing financial integrity and supporting the future growth of the business and its people to achieve operational excellence. She will provide leadership in Finance, IT, Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance, Administration and Corporate Services matters.
Ms. Teo has over 19 years of extensive experience in senior roles running teams in the insurance industry in Singapore and Asia. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Teo was the CFO & COO of QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch and was also involved in Asia Finance related matters. In this role, she led the development and delivery of finance strategy, while building a collaborative team within the organization, and building consistency in quality, methodology and reporting. In addition, she worked through issues with auditors and executives by delivering value and insight to the business. Ms. Teo has experience working as a Business Consultant of the Insurance Australia Group (IAG) based in Australia. She was also the Head of Finance with ACE Insurance Ltd and GE Insurance Solutions. Her insurance career began as a Regional Internal Auditor with American Insurance Group (AIG) auditing both life and non-life insurance operations within the AIG group of companies in Asia.
Ms. Teo holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School and was admitted Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) by The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK). She is a qualified Fellow, Chartered Accountant of Singapore by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) by Life Office Management Association, Inc.
Ms. Linda Tan is the appointed Director, Marine of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, she oversees the strategic direction of underwriting, portfolio management and professional development of the Marine Underwriting Division. She will assist the CEO to lead the operation in meeting its growth objectives for marine business.
Ms. Tan has over 20 years of tested experience in the insurance industry with practical expertise in underwriting, servicing, broking and marketing of Marine and Non-Marine insurance products. Her specialties also include regional account management for facultative and treaty business.
Prior to this appointment, Ms. Tan held the positions of Senior Director with Howden Insurance Brokers (Singapore) and Marine Divisional Director of Acclaim Insurance Brokers. In both of these roles, she was responsible for the growth of Marine Hull, Marine Cargo, Protection & Indemnity, Marine Liabilities and Marine related products for both new and expanded business in the Asia region. In addition, Ms. Tan led a Cargo Team in Marsh Singapore, managing both retail and wholesale production for the South East Asia region. Here, she also acted as a Technical Advisor for the Marsh South East Asia offices and a Client Manager for Marine Hull in the retail and regional businesses. She was also a Marine Underwriter with Asia Capital Reinsurance Group underwriting Cargo Risk for facultative business in the region, primarily focusing on the Southeast Asia and North Asia markets. Ms. Tan is an Associate member of the Australian Insurance Institute.
Mr. Eric Kwan is the appointed Director, Distribution of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for the strategic leadership in the distribution and business development within the Singapore operation. He will assist the CEO in leading the distribution teams and channels, including shaping the agency and broker frameworks to meet revenue and growth objectives for all classes of business.
Mr. Kwan has over 16 years of experience in the insurance industry, holding senior roles within the underwriting, sales and business development areas. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Kwan was the Associate Director, Head of Broking Department with AXA Insurance Singapore Pte Ltd. In this role, he managed the second largest channel and led the department to achieve significant revenue growth and high renewal retention through effective team management, service engagement and robust business development. He was awarded the Best Employee in business development. Mr. Kwan also spent 10 years with China Insurance Co. (S) Pte. Ltd. in a leadership and management role handling underwriting and business development of Property & Casualty classes of business.
Mr. Kwan holds a Bachelor of Business (Insurance) degree with Nanyang Technological University.
Senior Manager, Risk Management & Compliance
Mr. Ian Lee is the appointed Senior Manager, Risk Management & Compliance of Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, he is responsible for shaping the risk management and compliance framework and culture within the Singapore operation. He will assist the CEO to lead the operation in meeting its regulatory compliance obligations.
Mr. Lee has over 10 years of experience within the insurance risk management and compliance area and he has developed extensive knowledge in ERM, capital modelling and risk management framework. Prior to this appointment, he was the Manager, Risk Management of QBE Insurance (International) Limited, Singapore Branch. He was responsible for the entire risk management and compliance function within the company. Mr. Lee also spent seven years with the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Insurance Supervision Department having held the position of Deputy Director.
Mr. Lee holds Bachelor’s degrees (BSc/BA) with Nanyang Technological University and a Diploma in Actuarial Techniques with the Institute of Actuaries (UK). He also holds Certificates in Life Insurance and Personal General Insurance with the Singapore College of Insurance.
Senior Manager, Marine Claims
Mr. Donovan Lam is the appointed Senior Manager, Marine Claims with Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, Mr. Lam oversees the claims management of all Marine classes of business to drive best practices and deliver the highest claims service to clients.
Donovan has over 27 years of extensive experience in Marine claims, starting in an International Average Adjusting firm before moving into Claims Management in insurance companies. Prior to this appointment, he was a Senior Claims Manager – Marine with Zurich Insurance Co Ltd in Hong Kong. He was responsible for leading a team of technical claims professionals to follow company’s policies and processes ensuring accurate and timely resolutions of marine claims which include international programs, cargo, yacht and pleasure craft, logistics’ and freight forwarder’s liability, port and terminal liability and fine arts and species. In addition to the local role, he was also the Marine Claims Manager, Asia Pacific which he was giving technical support in the development and implementation of the strategic direction for the regional claims and the assigned branches/business areas and units.
He holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Geography and is also an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institution of London.
Puan Mui Hong
Senior Manager, Property & Casualty Claims
Ms. Puan Mui Hong is the appointed Senior Manager, Property & Casualty Claims with Great American Insurance Company, Singapore Branch. In this role, Ms Puan oversees the claims management of all Property & Casualty classes of business to drive best practices and deliver the highest claims services to clients.
Mui Hong has over 20 years of extensive claims experience working with global insurers. Throughout her career, she has been responsible for the full spectrum of Property & Casualty and Motor Claims. Prior to this appointment, Mui Hong was an Assistant Vice President, Motor Claims managing a team with Liberty Insurance. She also had experiences at AIG and was responsible for both Express Claims Unit and Commercial Lines. In addition to the local role, Mui Hong participated in the Barometer of Liability Agreement (BOLA) work committee at GIA and was also an Adjudicator at GIA in relation to Motor Claims escalated for adjudication.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Social Science degree with National University of Singapore (NUS) and also a Diploma in Insurance awarded by The Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII). She is also a certified Lean Expert by Kaizen Consulting Group.
