Very Peri: 2022 Pantone Color of the Year

2022-color-of-the-year

In honor of National Coloring Book Day, Great American’s Fidelity / Crime Division’s Andrew Gristina, Fine Art Director, is once again drawing attention to Pantone’s pick for Color of the Year!

For the second time in as many years, Pantone has achieved a first in their pick for the color of the year. Last year was the first time two colors were chosen. Excitingly, this year also has a twist! For the first time, Pantone has created a new color. I bet the handicappers in Las Vegas didn’t see that one coming! Called Very Peri (PANTONE 17-3938), it’s described as a Periwinkle (PANTONE 17-3932) hue with red undertones. It’s intended to convey warmth, happiness, and optimism. It’s also intended to work well in the virtual world. Since many of us now work in both the virtual and real worlds, that could come in handy.

With over 1100 colors in their catalog to choose from, Pantone still needed something new to convey their optimism for 2022. How great is that?! I know I am looking forward to new opportunities this year. I like their confidence and will follow their lead.

By the way, I looked at the Pantone list of colors with proper names. There are several named after animals, but Periwinkle (PANTONE 17-3932) is the only one named after a mollusk. If you didn’t know about this color before reading this article, you’ll start to see it everywhere now. That’s fun, isn’t it? There are so many surprises out there. Talk to the experts at Fidelity / Crime about reducing the risks that come with the unexpected.

I thank Pantone for providing their unique perspective and look forward to seeing more of this periwinkle hue in 2022.
