Environmental Team Welcomes Emma Giordano
Emma Giordano, Environmental Underwriter, National Underwriting—New York Office
In effort to ensure we are the insurance company of choice for environmental insurance brokers, it is important we establish a strong and dynamic team. Each issue of Environmental Insider will introduce you to members of our team and describe the unique role they play to support you and your clients.
Great American Insurance Group’s Environmental Division welcomes Emma Giordano to its National Underwriting department as an Underwriter. In her role, Emma will be responsible for underwriting all environmental lines of business while focusing on developing and maintaining relationships to build sustainable business opportunities for the division.
Emma earned her bachelor’s degree in science with a focus in environmental studies and a minor in French from Emory University. While obtaining her degree, Emma was an assistant leader for ECAST, a sustainability-focused organization, where she initiated referendum for a Green Fee at Emory University and oversaw innovative environmental-focused projects, such as a solar initiative to advocate for the utilization of solar energy on campus.
With a passion for global sustainability, Emma had the opportunity to participate in diverse abroad experiences. These included an extracurricular project in the rainforests of Peru, where she learned about botany and herbal medicine, studied the intersection of local herbal remedies and modern medicine, and advocated for preservation of the indigenous culture. Prior to her experience in Peru, Emma completed a field study in Namibia and Botswana where she had the opportunity to immerse herself in the African culture while performing geology and ecology based research for local ecosystems.
After graduating, Emma worked with Beyond Organic Growers, an aeroponic farming company, where she collaborated with management to increase hydroponic greenhouse and micro-greenery operational efficiency. Her efforts to implement organic solutions contributed to a 60 percent increase in produce turnover.
Before joining Great American, Emma began her career as an environmental consultant at an engineering and science company. As a consultant, she focused on performing due diligence projects such as Phase I Environmental Site Assessments to report site completion standards including historical and analytical research, data compilation, site inspection, and coordination with project managers and clients on a consistent basis.
“From a training standpoint, it’s been a great experience and an insightful transition from consulting into the underwriting side of business. Everyone at Great American really focuses on upholding a community-based culture. I think the constructive criticism during collaboration meetings is really positive and a great way to learn,” Emma said.
Emma, along with the team of the experts at Great American Environmental, can uncover the hidden risks in your clients’ operations and develop a custom program to help protect them. The division offers a complete portfolio of environmental insurance products, including contractor’s and fixed premises pollution liability insurance that work across the U.S., U.S. territories, Canada and other select countries. “I’m excited for the new opportunity and I look forward to working with such a great team!” Emma said.
Welcome, Emma! We look forward to seeing you prosper in your new role!
