Warehouse Claims Scenarios
Be ready when life happens. These special risks claim situations illustrate the variety of environmental exposures that could affect your customers!
A manufacturing and chemical processing plant, located in a densely populated area, experienced an on-site explosion. To contain the air emissions released during the explosion, the use of deluge water was required. As a result, a variety of claims resulted including: possible fines and penalties for air permit violations, contaminated deluge water runoff, and business interruption of neighboring facilities. The insured also incurred public relations expenses to address community concerns.
A New England petroleum marine storage terminal, which had been in operation for over a decade, received a product delivery from a tanker vessel. During the delivery process, a coupling device on the high capacity hose came loose. When the emergency shut-off valve initially failed, thousands of gallons of petroleum product spilled into the harbor. Environmental regulators and the Coast Guard were immediately alerted. Emergency containment and extensive cleanup was required.
A fertilizer company suffered a release of approximately 13,000 gallons of nitric acid at its manufacturing facility. The volatile product migrated to a neighboring roadway and several adjacent properties. Regulatory agencies were notified and cleanup was undertaken to remediate the hazardous spill.
