Congratulations to Alexander Evert, son of employee Jennifer Evert, and Siya Shah, daughter of employee Nirav Shah. Our parent company, American Financial Group named these stellar students as its 2019 AFG Scholarship recipients.

About Alexander

Alexander has graduated from Lakota West High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He will attend the University of Rochester, where he plans to major in Physics and Economics.

Alexander has a deep appreciation for music. He runs his own small business, Forte Piano Studio, where he teaches young kids how to play the piano. He is a member of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and was selected for the Ohio All-State Band and Regional Honor Band.

Alexander has also excelled in leadership roles during his high school career. He is a member of the Lakota West Chess team and the Academic Quiz team, and is President of Lakota West's INTERAlliance chapter. Last summer, he was a delegate of the American Legion Buckeye Boys State, a hands-on leadership program for young men to learn about city, county and state government through a non-partisan objective approach.

About Siya

Siya will graduate from West High School in Torrance, California. She will attend the University of California, Los Angeles, where she plans to major in MIMG (Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics).

Siya has excelled in extracurricular activities and academics. In 2018, she participated in a Summer Fellowship at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute in the Neonatology Department. She also continued volunteering at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute through her senior year and presented at the annual Western Student Medical Research Forum conference in Carmel, California, on behalf of the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute..

Siya served as Vice President of the National Honor Society in her senior year and as President of Tutorial Club her junior and senior year. She has also volunteered more than 150 hours at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, participated in the California Scholarship and will be a Sealbearer when she graduates.

Siya has received the following awards and scholarships:

  • Pursuit of Excellence Award for both English and Mathematics
  • National Merit Finalist Scholarship
  • AP Scholar with Distinction
  • Certificate of Merit Senior Award

Committed to the Future

AFG awarded its first scholarship in 1967 and has awarded 152 scholarships to the sons and daughters of our employees during that 52 year span. To compete for the scholarships, students must take the PSAT/NMSQT during their junior year.
