Foal Coverage

By Rebecca Barbazon – Senior Underwriter, Equine Mortality

With foaling season in swing this is a good time to review Prospective Foal insurance. This insurance provides coverage against a mare that is greater than 42 days in foal aborting, slipping, carrying twins, or delivering a still born foal. This insurance also provides coverage in the event a live born foal dies during the policy period. Prospective Foal coverage can extend through 30 days after birth, 60 days after birth, or 12 months after birth. Coverage is subject to a current Pregnancy Certificate confirming the mare is 42 days in foal with a live viable fetus.
