Biological Hazards
Be ready when life happens. These biological hazard situations illustrate the variety of environmental exposures that could affect your customer!
Decontamination Following Unattended Death
A property management company discovered a tenant deceased in an apartment after several weeks without contact. By the time the individual was found, decomposition-related fluids and odors had migrated into flooring, drywall, and portions of an adjacent unit. Environmental consultants were retained to assess the extent of contamination, and specialized biohazard remediation contractors conducted decontamination, removal of impacted building materials and air monitoring. Costs were incurred to restore the unit, remediate affected areas, and temporarily relocate neighboring tenants during cleanup.
Bloodborne Pathogen Contamination at a Retail Store
An employee suffered a severe injury while operating equipment in a grocery store stockroom, resulting in a significant release of blood and other bodily fluids. Portions of the store were immediately closed while emergency responders treated the injured worker. Environmental remediation contractors were hired to perform biohazard decontamination of affected surfaces, inventory, and equipment. The store incurred cleanup expenses, business interruption losses, and costs associated with safely disposing of contaminated materials.
Trauma Scene Contamination at a Hotel
A hotel guest room became the scene of a violent incident requiring law enforcement intervention. Blood and bodily fluids contaminated furniture, flooring, and portions of the HVAC system. The hotel retained a biohazard remediation firm to perform decontamination, remove impacted materials, and verify the area was safe for future occupancy. The incident resulted in cleanup expenses, temporary room closures, and loss of revenue during remediation.
